St. Lucius Church

The Church in Farnley Tyas was the Gift of the Lord of the Manor, William Fourth Earl of Dartmouth, the Foundation Stone was laid in 1838 and the Dedication of the finished Church took place in 1840.
The Interior of the Church is simple in style but is bright and airy with limed oak stalls, pews and screen, which were installed in 1904 when three aisles were created instead of the original single central aisle; there are a number of interesting coloured leaded light windows. The organ of two manuals was built by Peter Conacher of Springwood Organ Works, Huddersfield. Peter Conacher built an organ for the Yorkshire Exhibition of 1866 and
this instrument was awarded a grand medal and was sold to Huddersfield Parish Church.
The building has many features of architectural interest on the exterior. A peal of five bells which were installed between 1971 and 1975 are hung from a fixed beam for carillon–type ringing. The Church is now in the Team Parish of ‘Almondbury with Farnley Tyas’.
