Community

The Community in Farnley Tyas is a fairly stable one! It emerged from our survey that 59% had been resident for more than ten years and in fact 36% of people living in the Village had done so for more than twenty years. There is a good mix of ages with both young families, middle aged people and the elderly.

Housing is varied, 75% is privately owned, the remainder consisting of various types of rented accommodation.

Some 75% of residents would like to see more organised Village events but 55% claimed a lack of time prevented them being available to help with these Village events. Many residents would like to see more activities for different groups of people, i.e. the elderly, the young, mothers and pre-school children.

There is a moderate need for more sporting activity, football, cricket, tennis and bowling as well as equestrian events could all have their place. Walking had high priority for many people. Some one would like to start a book club, another mountain
biking and yet another to see a garden centre established.

The School, the Church, The Golden Cock Inn, the Bowling Club and the Recreation Ground all had a great deal of support for their importance to the Village. Responses ranged from 83% to 98% very important/important.

A majority of respondents would like to see a Community Centre established and 71% felt the re-introduction of a shop for top up shopping would be useful.
