Questionaire

In the summer of 2006 the Community Group received a draft Strategy Report from Farnley Estates Limited; coincidentally Kirklees was in the process of consulting on the proposed Local Development Framework (LDF). A questionnaire was prepared and distributed to the community. It was based on the feedback from the February 2006 newsletter and included elements to help gauge views which could be used to liaise with Farnley Estates Limited and to provide feedback to Kirklees Council.

There were twenty three questions but with multiple choice answers and the flexibility of answers from different members of a household, it was considerably larger. A number of questions were included at the request of Farnley Estates Limited. We would like to thank all those who took the time to complete the questionnaire.

  • The number of households receiving Questionnaires was one hundred and sixty
  • The number of Questionnaires returned was ninety five
  • The number of people replying was two hundred and fourteen

During the autumn of 2006 YRCC assisted us by entering data into computer software and producing a statistical report for the Community Group. There were over fifty pages of data to be analysed before a Community Plan could be drawn up.

In December 2006, a Newsletter was distributed which summarised feedback to the questionnaire.

Action Planning

During spring 2007 the four working groups reviewed the data from the Questionnaire and prepared a series of Action Plans based around the main themes of:

  • Community
  • Development & Environment
  • Farnley Estates Liaison
  • Traffic & Transport

Feedback from the Community

During January 2008 an Open Weekend was held in the Farnley Tyas Bowling Club. The draft Community Plan was displayed and copies were also available for quiet consideration. Some seventy people attended and it was evident that this chance to contribute was much appreciated.

Feedback from the weekend was very positive and in support of the Community Plan; it was thought that the document was very useful and comprehensive.  Attendees were aware of the hard work that the Community Group has undertaken on behalf of Village people. The feedback re-iterated the views already expressed in the questionnaire and endorsed the sentiment of the Village. Comments by visitors were subsequently reviewed and the Community Plan amended where necessary.

How much has it cost?

Approximately £4,800. This is to meet the cost of preparing the questionnaire, in-putting and analyse of the responses, formulating of action plans, hire of meeting rooms, design and then printing of this ‘glossy’ professional document, which will be distributed to every property in our area. This does not include the time ‘in-kind’ from many residents, who have been involved during the various stages,

This document is free of charge to residents, thanks to the funders and to the residents who have contributed with their own time!

Who has paid for the Community Plan?

Approximately £4,300 with the help of the YRCC, from Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (defra) through the Rural Social and Community Programme – Parish Plan Scheme.

A contribution of £450 from the Kirkburton Parish Council.

And also a small number of contributions from residents.
